Martin Luther King Jr [1929-1968] was an outstanding figure in the civil rights movement in the U.S. and in the struggle for human rights throughout the world. The speech given by Martin Luther King from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington on August 28, 1963 was extraordinarily memorable. The words: "I have a dream" punctuated a series of statements of his hope for harmony and equality in a beautiful rhythm, and the speech is continually revisited because of its vision of hope.
